This auction prize donated by Paul Hollingworth is for a lunch - with a difference. The difference isn’t in the lunch itself but in the mode of transport to and from the restaurant which will be in an open-cockpit gyroplane - a Magni M16. The pilot and lunch companion will be Paul himself who has been flying for over 20 years, and flying gyros for the last 30 months or so. He has over 400 hours in the Magni M16 and has now flown nearly 100 passengers. He’s a Brit but promises to fly on the right side of the sky. His longest flight in the gyro was when he bought it from the dealer in Austin Texas and flew it back cross-country, a distance of nearly 1,500 miles. It took 3 days and he says he’d love to do it again.

The flight will be from San Martin airport, on highway 101 near Gilroy, at a date to be agreed. (Friends and family are welcome to come to the airport and see the gyro and watch the departure). After flying around the area, you will fly to the coast and travel to Santa Cruz, over Aptos beach and Capitola, before landing at Watsonville. Lunch will be at Ella’s restaurant, after which you will fly back and take in some of the local scenery.

Please note that under FAA rules, the prize you are bidding for is the lunch. Paul is simply offering to fly you to the restaurant in his gyro. If you’d rather go by your own transportation, that’s fine too.

The view from a gyro is incredible with no wings or other structure to get impede visibility. They are highly maneuverable and can fly extremely slowly without stalling. Modern gyros are much safer than helicopters and they can land at very slow speeds and in a small distance. There are few of them in the U.S. so far but they have become very popular in Europe and Paul will be keen to show you why.

Valid until 9/30/20 at a mutually agreeable date.
