PAVA seeks participants for its free leg exercise study for those with SCI

The Palo Alto Veterans Administration (PAVA) in Palo Alto is recruiting candidates for a research study on the benefits of leg exercises in individuals with a spinal cord injury.

The research study is investigating several activities that are designed to exercise paralyzed legs; some of the activities involve functional electrical stimulation (FES). The goal of the study is to understand how much force is produced in a participant’s legs during each activity, with the intent to determine whether certain exercises could have the potential to benefit bone health and maintenance after SCI. The study is funded by VA and exercise sessions are held at VA Palo Alto, but participation is open to both veterans and non-veterans.

For questions about this study, please contact Rebecca Lambach at (650) 493-5000, ext. 69411 or e-mail rebecca.lambach@va.gov.
