NorCal SCI attends Ed Roberts Day awards gala

NorCal SCI co-founders, Nick and Franklin, were kindly invited by the Center for Independent Living to the Jan. 23rd gala event commemorating Ed Roberts Day at a festive ceremony held on the campus of UC Berkeley at the University Club atop the Memorial Stadium.

When we got to Berkeley, it seemed we kept on driving and driving and climbing and climbing, leaving us to wonder where we will end up.  But boy, was it worth the drive.  For those of you who have never been to the University Club, it does sit at the very top of the Memorial Football Stadium.  On one side, you have the full view of the entire stadium and on the other side, a breath-taking view of the San Francisco Bay with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

Inside, the live jazz music was just getting started and we were greeted warmly by the staff and made our way to the reception area.  In no time, the place filled up with about 200 guests.  We met CIL Executive Director, Stuart James, who welcomed us to the event.  As food and alcohol was being served, we found ourselves networking with people from all types of organizations as well as with some friends of Ed Roberts and heard some amazing stories.

But the evening was about the three distinguished guests who were being recognized with an award in Ed's name:   Raymond Lifchez, Cory Lee Woodard, and Zona Roberts.  NorCal SCI congratulates these outstanding individuals for their contributions.  Ed Roberts would have been proud of your work.
