Santa Clara County Supervisors begin review of Vasona Lake Boating Center accessibility
THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY.
The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors is meeting on Tues., Dec. 16th to review the Santa Clara County Parks & Recreation Dept. staff report that was drafted at their request to outline the work and budget needed to help modernize and make accessible the Boat Center at Vasona Lake & Park in Los Gatos. NorCal SCI has taken the lead role advocating for this issue and is attending this meeting and will issue updates on its Facebook page as well as Twitter feed on Tuesday afternoon. We’d also to request the attendance of the spinal cord injury community in order to demonstrate the support this issue is deserving of. We suggest being there around noon time at the Board of Supervisors' Chambers, County Government Center, 70 West Hedding Street, 1st floor in San Jose.
As we had previously reported on this matter, the facility has always been completely inaccessible for use by those with a physical disability. The draft report confirms the inadequacy and the age of the facility and has come up with a nearly $600,000 price tag as well as a 2 1/2-4 year completion date if it were to be approved by the Board of Supervisors.
NorCal SCI anticipates the Board will be concerned with the high cost but we are prepared to make a forceful argument at the meeting for the necessity of this project to be carried out in full and as quickly as possible. You can view the full report HERE.
