NorCal SCI visits with the John Muir Medical Center Rehabilitation Unit

As part of our continued outreach to the Northern California Rehab Centers, NorCal SCI co-founder Nick Struthers visited the John Muir Medical Center Rehabilitation Unit in Walnut Creek last Tuesday.  Nick had reached out to Sid Hsu, Director of Rehabilitation Services at John Muir and Sid was gracious enough to meet up with Nick.

"The views of the surrounding hills were spectacular, particularly from the 8th floor of the parking structure." writes Nick.

This was my fist visit to the John Muir Medical Center and I was impressed by the location and buildings. I met Sid in the lobby and he took me through to a conference room just off the rehab gym. The facility was completed just a few years ago and looked and felt impressive. Sid, who is relatively new to rehabilitation services, informed me that John Muir has 25 beds dedicated to rehabilitation and about 10% of their patients have an SCI/D. We agreed that on average, John Muir provides acute inpatient rehabilitation for 10-15 SCI patients a year. I was able to tell Sid more about NorCal SCI and our programs and I left him with two of our Care Packages for the SCI patients.

I would like to thank Sid for his time and NorCal SCI is excited about engaging with John Muir to support their patients in any way we can.
