Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) is collaborating with Environmental Traveling Companions (ETC) to host an all-day trip to the American River for a day of accessible whitewater rafting on Sat., Aug. 26th but deadline to register and pay for the trip is Sat., Aug. 5th and there are a very limited number of openings for wheelchair users available on a first-come, first served basis.

The day of rafting will include approximately 12 miles on the Lower Gorge Section of the South Fork American River. This stretch starts with mellower Class II whitewater and then builds to exciting Class III whitewater in the afternoon for fun waves and rapids. ETC is committed to making outdoor adventure accessible to people with special needs, and their Guides are experienced in making adaptations for a wide range of physical abilities, using both paddle rafts and oar rafts to make a variety of accommodations.

The bus will leave the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley at 6:30 a.m. and return between 7-9 p.m.  The fee will be between $90-$100 and will include food, fees, and transportation.

To get more information, contact program coordinator, Lori Gray, at (510) 843-4398 after 10 a.m.
