Spinal Singularity conducting clinical trials involving male bladder management device

CATHETER.jpg

A Southern California-based medical device company, Spinal Singularity, has received FDA approval to conduct clinical trials on a new, ready for this, wireless internal catheter system for males with a neurogenic bladder. The company was founded by a veteran who was paralyzed while serving in Afghanistan.

The Connected Catheter is a fully internal, urethral indwelling urinary prosthesis, a sterile, single-extended-use device that resides fully internally to the male lower urinary tract (urethra + bladder neck) for an intended service life of up to seven days per Catheter. You can read the details of the study HERE.

To see how this catheter works, watch the video. It is a fascinating concept but right off the bat, you question the effect of having a catheter placed in your urethra permanently, what happens during sexual activity, and how would you handle the emptying of your bladder if you don’t have the required hand function. So, it’s definitely not for everyone. If you wish to enroll in the clinical trial, you may apply HERE.
