Research study on "Psychological Health Promotion Program for Women with SCI" is seeking participants
A research study sponsored by the TIRR Memorial Herrmann Rehabilitation Hospital in Houston is seeking to enroll women with spinal cord injuries as part of a program called “Zest: A Psychological Health Promotion Program for Women with SCI”. Participants will be selected for either the intervention or control group and will be compensated based on accomplishing various requirements of the study.
If you are in the intervention group, you will:
Complete an online pre-test (approx. 20 mins, $25)
Create an avatar to represent yourself in the online virtual world of Second Life
Complete training in the virtual word of Second Life
Participate in the weekly sessions for 2 hours a week, for 10 weeks. Sessions include topics such as dealing with stress, depression, grief and loss, building healthy relationships, and resilience. After each session, there is a brief, 7 question feedback survey, as well as a brief homework assignment.
At the end of the 10 weeks, you will complete an online post-test and provide feedback on the intervention (30 mins total, $25)
6 months after the pre-test, you will complete a follow-up survey (approx. 20 mins, $50)
If you are in the control group, you will:
Complete an online pre-test (approx. 20 mins, $25)
Ten weeks later, you will complete an online post-test (20 mins total, $25)
6 months after the pre-test, you will complete a follow-up survey (approx. 20 mins, $50)
