Cooking with Arash: Aug. 26 virtual presentation to showcase wheelchair user's cooking tips
Don’t let his C5-6 incomplete spinal cord injury fool you. Berkeley resident, Arash Bayatmakou, loves to cook and hasn’t let his wheelchair get in the way of his passion for healthy eating mixed with some adventurous cooking strategies. And so, it’s that passion that led NorCalk SCI to engage with Arash as part of our “Virtual is the New Reality Series” and host the first of six presentations he will conduct on cooking with an SCI on Wed., Aug. 26th at 5 p.m. PT.
This free virtual presentation is part of “NorCal SCI’s Virtual is the New Reality Series” funded through a grant from the Reeve Foundation and you must register in advance to attend by clicking HERE. Once you register, you will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail from us which you should keep for access information to the virtual event.
In this session, Arash will show you kitchen basics, grocery essentials and tips and tricks for SCI-enabled cooking. Whether you're new to the kitchen, haven't cooked since your injury or know your stuff and simply want some tips for more efficient and healthy cooking, Arash has got you covered. His first session will focus on getting you (back?) into the kitchen and more comfortable with cooking. He'll cover shopping tips and essential items to have on hand, prepping basics and useful items for your kitchen.
Arash experienced his SCI in 2012 as a result of a fall. He has given numerous talks and shared his story of perseverance, recovery, and challenging limits to audiences large and small, including his TEDx talk. A Bay Area native, Arash credits his California upbringing for his love of the outdoors, nature, and cooking, activities he still cherishes as he continues to travel, explore and enjoy new experiences. He also serves on NorCal SCI’s Board of Directors.
