Going all out to celebrate Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month

SCI AWARENESS MONTH.jpeg

Yup, in case you didn’t notice it, today marks the beginning of Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. One can argue that it’s the population-at-large that we need to do a better job of educating when it comes to a spinal cord injury whereas one can forcefully argue that the spinal cord injury community can equally raise its awareness, too. And thus, we’ve focused our efforts on providing content to our SCI community that would hopefully result in a higher quality of life and awareness of their SCI. Our goal at NorCal SCI is to serve our community of those with a spinal cord injury so they can thrive and live productively.

While COVID-19 turned the world upside down, just like many other organizations, we’ve found a silver lining and that’s all the virtual events we’ve presented thus far and will continue to do so indefinitely. We’re announcing today an exclusive presentation by Dr. Susan Harkema, the renowned researcher behind the clinical trials involving the use of Epidural Stimulation for spinal cord injuries. September promises to be our busiest month of programming ever as we’re still working on putting on more events and here are just a few:

SEX WEEK - Yes, controversial but it is a much needed discussion about sex after SCI for BOTH men and women.

CBD - Even more controversial but is being used more widely within the SCI population, yet so many people know so little about its benefits and dangers. We want to educate you about it.

BLADDER MANAGEMENT IN SCI - Urinary Tract Infections (UTI) are part of the lives of those with SCI but why? We’ll seek to address that with a top of his class urologist with a ton of experience working with the SCI population.

We have a lot of opportunities ahead to raise awareness in a variety of ways for a variety of people on an indefinite basis and we’re working on them.
