Adaptive surfing for the SCI community comes to Pismo Beach on Dec. 5

We know that the idea of floating in the cold Pacific Ocean water is not likely to generate a lot of enthusiasm within the spinal cord injury community but what the folks at the Central Coast of California chapter of United Spinal are offering on Sun., Dec. 5th is fun, exhilarating and well worth the mild discomfort: free adaptive surfing for quadriplegics and paraplegics at the world famous Pismo Beach hosted by AmpSurf. And no, you won’t be surfing in wheelchairs but rather, on a real surf board led by instructors as part of the “Learn to Surf Clinic”.

Being out on the waves makes for an unforgettable experience, so if you’re interested, please register HERE. You will be asked to put a $50 refundable deposit to hold your spot. Participants are encouraged to contact AmpSurf in advance to make sure all efforts can be made to accommodate your disability. Please email surf@ampsurf.org

At check-in, each person’s temperature will be checked and standard Covid-19 questions will be asked. Once Covid-19 screening is complete, masks can be removed. AmpSurf will provide snacks, coffee, water, a surfboard, wetsuit, and rash-guard for each participant to use. A beach wheelchair is available if needed. All attendees are highly encouraged to bring their own swim suit, towel, sun screen, picture ID, and anything else they think they will need for the day’s adventure.
