Decreasing bladder spasticity after SCI with Botox
For people with spinal cord injuries, an overactive bladder can result in urinary incontinence and other problems. While there are various medications that can help with this issue, bladder chemodenervation, sometimes referred to as “bladder Botox®” has been shown to be an effective treatment. This presentation is led by Dr. Claire Yang, urologist with Harborview Medical Center and VA Puget Sound Health Care System and she explains the mechanism by which it works, who might be a good candidate for the treatment, what to expect when getting the procedure done, how long the injection lasts, and research on bladder chemodenervation.
For anyone with a neurogenic bladder, family member, caregiver, or healthcare provider, this is a great learning opportunity about this commonly-used and effective treatment. You can watch the 67-minute presentation HERE.
