Berkeley-based Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP) is hosting an entertaining and educational zoom presentation for people of all abilities on Thurs., March 18th at 6 p.m. PST to enjoy connecting with our Backyard Birds found in Northern California and likely elsewhere in California. This virtual presentation marks the launch of BORP’s Birding for All program and they’re also giving away a backyard bird pocket ID guide to the first five people with spinal cord injuries that register. Please note that space is limited and the program will not be recorded. You may register HERE.

Birding has recently seen an explosion of interest as an ideal activity that can be practiced near home and with safe social distancing. Recent research shows that birding brings joy and wellbeing to humans. This free, basic backyard birding webinar is great for all ages and will serve as an inspiration for you to connect with birds and nature.

Bay Area naturalist and birding coach, Jeff Caplan, will coach you to:

  • gain inspiring knowledge of birds and birding

  • learn memorable tips for identifying by sight and sound some common backyard birds

  • enjoy birding techniques for people with diverse mobility, visual and hearing abilities

Jeff weaves 30 years as a naturalist and a teacher of communication skills, to cultivate a common language for connecting more deeply with nature and birds throughout the world. He inspires youth science educators in Yosemite, tour guides in the Galapagos, and university students in the Amazon jungles of Ecuador. He weaves mindfulness, citizen science and bird language to help people from diverse backgrounds to feel curious and connected in nature.
