NorCal SCI appoints Tricia Lawrence to its Board of Directors
Parents of a person with a spinal cord injury are often called upon to help care and support their loved ones regardless of their living situation and that’s the story of Tricia Lawrence who along with her husband, Kevin, are parents to Jo-Marie who experienced an incomplete C4-5 injury due to a snowboarding accident in Canada in 2018. Thrusted into a new role, their struggles in dealing with the nuances of a spinal cord injury are as unique as the person who has experienced it. And so, as we’ve come to know them ever since meeting them at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center back in February of 2019, we knew that Jo was in the best hands possible once she was discharged. And now, we are thrilled to welcome Tricia to NorCal SCI’s Board of Directors who will bring the unique perspective of a parent of SCI to our organization.
Tricia is originally from the UK (with Nick from Scotland, we hope they will get along) where she started the first British diaper laundry service in 1992. She was able to successfully sell the business when Kevin was relocated to the Bay Area for his work. It wasn't long before she looked for another venture to get her teeth into and with her new best friend, she started the relocation company, California Concierges. After 10 years of working with companies to help their new employees explore and move into the Bay Area, she made the decision to leave the business and accept a full-time marketing position at Adobe as their Community Manager.
After 12 years in that position, Tricia retired in early 2020 to take over the caregiver role from Kevin who continues his full-time job working from home.
"I am excited to serve on the Board of NorCal SCI where I will be able to pay it forward and continue my passion of community building through this amazing organization," says Tricia.
Having seen the love and hard work that Tricia and Kevin have shown in caring and supporting Jo, we were convinced that she would fulfill a critical role within our organization and bring that unique perspective of a “parent with SCI” that we were sorely missing. Welcome, Tricia. We are most fortunate to have crossed paths.
