Facing inaction in CA State Legislature, mobile fueling bill needs support of disability community

MOBILE FUELING.png

Most drivers with mobility challenges fret over the idea of going to a gas station. Why? While the ADA requires reasonable accommodations at gas stations, we all know that most are insufficient or just plain ignore the law. The result is either receiving no service or if you do, it takes forever to get it. Earlier this year, California legislators chose to maintain outdated rules meant to support gas stations by rejecting a bill to grow on-demand mobile fueling services. The time has come to demand immediate action to help remedy this situation by expanding fueling options.

Mobile fueling on-demand services eliminate the gas station errand and cost no more than conventional fuel. Allowing the service to grow in California would bring fuel directly to millions of drivers in our state at the touch of a button. Assemblymember Laura Friedman, Transportation Committee Chair, has the option to advance a bill in the legislature that would safely expand affordable mobile fueling services, but she is stalling. The bill is supported by United Spinal Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America, NorCal SCI and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to name a few.

Californians for Smart Fueling, a coalition supporting the mobile fueling bill, is hosting an event in Burbank for you to attend at Assemblymember Friedman’s office on Thurs., June 17th at 2 p.m.. Please help spread the word if you can. Additionally, you can also submit this online petition to demand action be taken now. Please help spread the word now.
