Elon Musk company, Neuralink, seeks SCI participants for brain scan study

Neuralink, a neurotech company founded by Elon Musk, is seeking individuals with a spinal cord injury to participate in a brain scan using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in San Mateo, CA. The company is creating an assistive device that will allow people with paralysis to control computers and mobile devices using their brain activity alone. The device will record neural signals and use them to decode intended movements. Neuralink has partnered with Biograph to map the regions of the brain involved in generating the intention to move, hence the need for the fMRI.

If you decide to take part in this research study, you will be asked to lie inside the MRI machine for about 90 minutes. This device uses a strong magnetic field to image brain activity . You will be able to communicate with the radiologist and may stop the session for any reason. During the scan you will be asked to lie still, watch a screen, and perform simple tasks.

If you are interested, please fill out this interest survey. If you have any questions, please contact patient-engagement@neuralink.com
