NorCal SCI welcomes Dan Scrivner to its Board of Directors

We are delighted to announce that Dan Scrivner has joined the NorCal SCI Board of Directors.
Dan first met Nick and Franklin at his first peer support meeting at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in December 2017, one week after sustaining an incomplete injury to his spinal cord at the C4-C6 level after a bike accident. That first encounter plus subsequent peer support meetings along with information and activities provided by NorCal SCI was very important for Dan’s recovery journey. Two months before his injury, Dan had just retired from a career in a variety of engineering and leadership roles with Space Systems Loral and BD Biosciences.
In June 2019, Dan travelled to Florida where he went through 3 months of intensive therapy at Brooks Rehabilitation Center which not only gave him the platform to further his recovery and functionality but also made him acutely aware of the lack of continued post hospital rehabilitation opportunities available in Northern California, particularly for individuals with limited financial resources.
In early 2020 Dan reached out to NorCal SCI as he wanted to give back to the organization that helped him and many others and immediately made an impact by coordinating the extremely successful adaptive cycling program at Lake Vasona in Los Gatos.
He has been instrumental in supporting NorCal SCI's efforts to open an outpatient rehab center and in June of 2022 took over the Neilsen Grant program that also supports the newly injured.

"The Neilsen Program has been extremely gratifying and heartwarming for me to meet and support a wide array of persons who have recently sustained an SCI throughout Northern California.
I appreciate the opportunity to support the NorCal SCI organization as a board member and hope my lived experience with an SCI , volunteer efforts and work experience can help the organization with its critical and important support for the Northern CA SCI community."
