A Fun Day Out on Vasona Lake

Members of the SCI community gathered for the return of SCVMC Rehab’s “Day on The Lake 2024” the first time this event has taken place since the pandemic.

The accessible kayaking hosted by Environmental Traveling Companions was a big hit and getting in and out of the kayaks was made so much easier since the accessible dock opened in July last year.

Along with the kayaking, individuals with disabilities and their friends and family were able to try hand cycling and accessible fishing provided by The Recreational Therapy Department. For those more adventurous, Able-Bodied had two sports handcyles available to demo. There was plenty to do for the kids including petting animals, face painting and a jump house.

NorCal SCI was just one of the many local non profits who were hosting booths there and it was great to connect with our community and share an ice cream with them.

A special thank you goes out to SCVMC Rehab for continuing the tradition on making outdoor activities more inclusive and encouraging participation for everyone with disabilities.

With the accessible dock at Lake Vasona now open, you will no longer need to wait another year to get out on the lake. More information on the summer accessible kayaking schedule will be announced in our newsletter soon.
