A Special Day at Vasona Lake- Accessible Kayaking Now Open

The accessible dock at Vasona Lake is now open and what a day the NorCal SCI community had at the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony last Saturday.

NorCal SCI would like to thank everyone at Santa Clara County involved in this project.
The entire event was a day to celebrate and recognize how important it is to give everyone access to the lake, not just today but everyday.

A large crowd gathered for the Ribbon Cutting

We had the opportunity to celebrate Franklin Elieh's legacy who, along with other SCI community members, advocated for persons with physical disabilities to have complete access to the beautiful facility’s boating center.

Doing the right thing is often challenging and it is easy to underestimate what was involved in allowing everyone to participate in Kayaking at such a beautiful location,

The efforts of the Santa Clara Valley Supervisors, Santa Clara County Parks & Recreation and Los Gatos-Saratoga Community Education & Recreation over a number of years brought this much needed accessible capability to fruition.

Now is your chance to enjoy the lake at Vasona, go to the LGSCER website and book your accessible kayaking slot.

Many individuals with an SCI were enjoying kayaking for the first time and yes, they will be kayaking again soon at the accessible dock which is open every day in the summer months. As always, it is important to get the community together and whether kayaking or just hanging out over lunch at such a beautiful location, it was indeed s special day.
