First In-Person Gathering for Men with SCI Support Group was a Success!
The first Men with SCI Support Group in-person event on December 9th
After starting the NorCal SCI Men with SCI support group in September and holding the first two meetings virtually, Armando Rodriguez decided to organize the first in-person gathering of the group and offer a safe and fun space to gather, share food and conversation, get to know each other, and have the invaluable in-person interactions that can go so much further than zoom and virtual meetups.
Armando partnered with Arthur Renowitzky and the Life Goes on Foundation to organize the event and host it at SCI FIT Dublin on Tuesday, September 9th. Despite difficult traffic conditions on a chilly evening, over 25 participants showed up for this inaugural event!
NorCal SCI and LGOF provided the pizza and refreshments and everyone had a chance to introduce themselves to the group, talk about their specific injuries and challenges, and also share questions and concerns to the group. One newly injured participant was in need of a manual wheelchair and was able to connect with another participant who was willing to donate an old wheelchair to him.
We had a fantastic age range of participants with everyone from teenagers to those in retirement age and differing levels of spinal cord injury. It was great to see such a diverse group come together to swap stories and share a great night.
Many thanks to SCI FIT Dublin and Life Goes on Foundation for helping to host this wonderful event. Join us at our next Men with SCI Support Group which will meet virtually on zoom on Wednesday, January 28th at 530pm. If you’re interested, register at the below link and we will send you the zoom details.
