JOIN THE 2026 BACKBONES YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM

Finding a community that truly understands the experience of living with a spinal cord injury can make a significant difference during the teenage years. The BACKBONES Youth Program offers exactly that—a dedicated space for teens ages 15–18 to gather, share their stories, and build friendships with others navigating similar paths.

This virtual program runs June 17 — August 15 on Wednesdays 11am-1pm. It is specifically designed to fit into a busy summer schedule while providing high-value connection. Here is what participants can expect:

  • Weekly Peer Connection: Meet with other teens from across the country via Zoom to discuss life, goals, and shared experiences.

  • Guest Speakers & Activities: Engage with mentors and guest speakers who offer unique perspectives on navigating the world with SCI/D.

  • Participation Stipend: To recognize the time and effort put into the program, every participant who completes the entire program receives a $500 stipend.

This is a unique opportunity to expand your circle and gain new perspectives in an environment where everyone understands the context of your daily life. It is more than just a summer activity; it is a way to build a network of support that lasts long after August.

Applications for the 2026 cohort are due by April 10, 2026.
