Locomotor Training Study is Looking for Incomplete SCI Participants

The Locomotor Recovery Laboratory (Director: George Hornby) at Indiana University is currently recruiting individuals > 10 months following incomplete SCI for participation in a randomized trial comparing high versus low intensity gait training. Participants in this randomized trial will complete up to thirty (30) 1-hour training sessions over approximately 2 months of either high (75-90% heart rate reserve) or low (25-40% heart rate reserve) intensity gait training. Additionally, individuals randomized to the low intensity training group will have the option of participating in the high intensity intervention following completion of the 3 month follow-up.

If anyone in the Northern California community is interested in participating in this study, funding may be available to assist with travel accommodations (e.g., hotel lodging during participation) as needed. Summary inclusion and exclusion criteria are below. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. 

·        > 6 months following injury 

·       ASIA impairment scale C or D with anatomical lesions between C1-T10 

·        18-75 years of age 

·        No more than minimal physical assistance to ambulate ≥ 20 feet at < 1.0 m/s with customary assistive device and below knee bracing as needed 

·        Cannot be currently participating in PT 

·        No intrathecal baclofen pumps or LE botox within past 3 months
