Natural Bridges Day at the Beach with Nature Track, June 10, 2023

What a wonderful time was had by all on Saturday at Natural Bridges Beach, Santa Cruz, California!

11 wheelchair users and their families, 5 volunteers from Nature Track and 3 NorCal SCI board members gathered to experience the motorized Freedom Trax which would enable the wheelchairs to roll along the beach.

Laughter and chatter followed them along the sands as their family and friends ran to keep up.

I caught up with some of them at lunch and let them do the talking!

Ceal: “I had an amazing time, smelling the seaweed, playing with the driftwood, and loved being on the sand”.
Alyssa: “It was just so freeing to be able to roll around and get close to the water”
Sue: “In the past I couldn’t see the “Natural Bridges” arch, this time I could see straight through it, great time!
Baraak: “it was a great experience -  my wish came true”
Jan: “It was an incredible experience, it was the most enjoyable toy I’ve played with in 43 years of being disabled. Living between the mountains and the ocean with all the great trails, the possibilities are endless”
Dorene: “It was so much fun to be able to be down on the beach…it’s not something you can replicate, you have to actually go there”.
Nicole: “It was really fun, ..a little scary at first, but over time I was hitting bigger hills on the beach in the wet and the dry”

A huge shout out to the Nature Track team who worked hard to make sure everyone was fitted and comfortable to get on the sand!

And thank you to Eva from CAF (Challenged Athletes Foundation) for coming and sharing how to apply for a grant in the future or attend one of their clinics.

We can’t wait to do this again!  Look out for our next Nature Tracks adventure!

Check out our video below to see what they’re all talking about!
