NorCal SCI Participates in Outreach at BORP Expo & Rehab Hospitals

NorCal SCI at the BORP Adaptive Sports Expo on October 6th, 2024.

October has been a busy month for NorCal SCI and our continued outreach and collaboration with local partners and organizations.

On October 2nd, Executive Director Arash Bayatmakou presented to the medical and rehabilitation staff at Stockton Rehabilitation Hospital. A part of the Ernest Health network, the hospital opened just over a year ago but has been treating patients with spinal cord injuries consistently (52 so far in 2024). These in-service presentations introduce the hospital staff to the services, programs, and support that NorCal SCI provides to the SCI community and strengthens the partnership between the organizations.

The next day, Arash was back at the Kaiser Foundation Rehabilitation Center in Vallejo, which is one of the larger neurological rehab hospitals in Northern California. It had been four and half years since NorCal SCI had done an in-person presentation at the facility and a great opportunity to reconnect with the people who are treating and helping the newly injured.

On October 6th, NorCal SCI was a vendor at the adaptive sports expo hosted by our friends at BORP. Throughout the day, people with all types of disabilities showed up to learn about and participate in a variety of adaptive sports including tennis, rugby, pickleball, basketball, and fencing, just to name a few. Despite the heat wave, the event was well-attended and NorCal SCI had the chance to meet with various members of the SCI community as well as partners and friends, old and new.
