NorCal SCI Strengthens Partnership with Two Sacramento Inpatient Hospitals

Occupational Therapist Mikaela Kerkman & Arash

NorCal SCI recently paid a visit to two new inpatient rehabilitation centers in Sacramento that are serving people with new spinal cord injuries.

At Sacramento Rehabilitation Hospital, NorCal SCI Executive Director Arash Bayatmakou presented in person to a team of therapists, clinicians, and staff serving SCI and other neurological injuries. With the hospital being less than a year old, many of the staff were not yet aware of the services and support that NorCal SCI provides to the SCI community.

The hospital staff were curious and eager to become more engaged with NorCal SCI and although their inpatient population with SCI has been limited to 9 traumatic and 32 non-traumatic SCIs since they opened, they expect these numbers to grow as they become better established and can provide more inpatient services.

Following a virtual presentation last fall to the team at UC Davis Health Rehabilitation Hospital (another new hospital recently built and still building up its operations) Arash was also able to tour that facility and meet with some of the staff. This 52 bed facility provides inpatient services for a variety of neurological conditions, including SCI, but also serves people with other injuries who need a short stint in inpatient rehabilitation.

It’s encouraging to know that the Sacramento area now has not one but two brand new facilities that can support the inpatient needs of the newly injured. NorCal SCI looks forward to collaborating with these facilities to help our SCI community.
