Santa Cruz Mountains Accessible Cycle Trails
Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Stewardship (SCMTS) are currently developing an accessible cycle trail as part of a new network on the Pacific Coast just 12 miles north of Santa Cruz. NorCal SCI board members Dan Scrivner and Nick Struthers recently had the opportunity to try out the trail, which is scheduled to be open to the public in the summer of 2025.
Dan and Nick were met at the trailhead by Katy Peterson, who is responsible for SCMTS Marketing and Communications, Emma Ussat, Community Engagement Manager, and Drew Perkins, SCMTS Trails Planning Director. The weather cooperated as it was a warm sunny day on the Pacific Coast and the group were excited to head out and explore the trail.
Drew realizes the importance of engaging with adaptive cyclists as they can provide valuable feedback on the trails construction so that it can be set up to have fun on various adaptive devices and enjoyed safely. Dan was able to give him important pointers particularly around the cambers on the trail which can have a significant impact to three wheeled cycles.
Look out for the announcement in our newsletter later in the summer when the accessible trail opens to the public.
