SCI Advocates & NorCal SCI Lobby Congress in Virtual Roll on Capitol Hill

NorCal SCI volunteer Kerry Peterson (pictured top right) and SCI advocates from California meet with Congress members on June 12, 2024

On June 12th, United Spinal and 194 total advocates from across the United States met with 180 Congressional offices to discuss important issues to the spinal cord and wheelchair community for Roll on Capitol Hill (ROCH). After hosting the event in-person in Washington in 2023, ROCH was held virtually this year with advocates meeting members of Congress and their staff on Zoom.

Members of the SCI community advocated for a right to repair and service wheelchairs, maximizing rehabilitation outcomes, and expanding access to care and support at home and in the community.

NorCal SCI – represented by local volunteer Kerry Peterson – and fellow Northern California advocates met with the offices of the below Senators and Representatives to share their personal stories and raise the voices and needs of the SCI community:

Sen. Laphonza Butler [D-CA]

Sen. Alex Padilla [D-CA]

Rep. Nancy Pelosi [D-CA11]

Rep. Zoe Lofgren [D-CA18]

If anyone in the SCI community is interested in becoming more involved with advocacy on a local, state, or federal level, please reach out to United Spinal and their Grassroots Advocacy Program: https://unitedspinal.org/advocacy-program/
