SCVMC pays tribute to our co-founder Franklin Elieh and founding board member Carl McGrew

A year after Franklin and Carl passed away, SCVMC paid a fitting tribute by dedicating a stunning image of them created by the artist Mio Dzakula. Family members, friends, fellow peer supporters, staff members and the NorCal SCI Board were in attendance for this special dedication. Franklin first started volunteering as a Peer Supporter in 2005, Carl joined the Peer Support Team in 2014. They selflessly dedicated themselves for many years meeting with the newly injured and their family members at SCVMC reassuring them that there is fulfilling life after such a devastating injury and leading by example in what was possible. It cannot be put into words, the positive impact they had on the hundreds of individuals and their loved ones they engaged with.

Dr James Crew, Karen Lucente and Gina Boomershine dedicating the image.

The Rehabilitation Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center already has over 30 spectacular and uplifting images gracing the walls on 3 floors which were created by Mio. He was a friend of both Franklin and Carl and was honored to create the stunning image that now adorns the room used for the Peer Support Meetings. Thank You Mio! We would like to especially thank Gina Boomershine, SCVMC Rehab Center Service Line Director for her incredible work in making the image and the dedication a reality.
