Free Wheelchair Accessible Rides in SF with Waymo

Earlier in August, Commissioners with the state's Public Utilities Commission voted in favor of the expansions sought by robotaxi services Cruise and Waymo. San Francisco will become the first major U.S. city with two fleets of driverless vehicles competing for passengers against ride-hailing and taxi services dependent on humans to operate the cars.

Congratulations to everyone at Waymo for their focus on bringing safer, more sustainable, and more accessible transportation to San Francisco.

Autonomous driving company Waymo now invites the NorCal SCI community to take free wheelchair accessible rides in San Francisco. If you are interested in participating, download the Waymo One ride-hailing app and create a Waymo account. Once you have completed this step please send an email to Rachel Kamen on the Waymo Public Affairs team (rkamen@waymo.com) letting her know that you are interested in Waymo’s wheelchair accessible ride program.

Waymo’s WAV service includes:

  • Drivers who can offer assistance to riders

  • Riders can bring up to 2 guests on a ride

  • Rides are available from 6am - Midnight Monday through Friday and on weekends from 8am - 5pm

  • Riders can schedule multiple stops for a trip; roundtrip service available

  • This service is currently free and operating throughout San Francisco
