NorCal SCI is a small but high-impact nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of people with spinal cord injuries across Northern California. Through innovative programs, peer connections, resource navigation, and community events, we empower individuals to live full and engaged lives after injury. Our work spans from hospital visits and newly injured support to adaptive fitness classes, mobile clinics, grants, and advocacy.
We’re seeking a part-time team member to support our day-to-day operations, help manage communications, and assist with program delivery. As our organization grows, this role is key in expanding our reach and sustaining our impact.
Position Details
Title: Operations & Program Support Specialist
Hours: 10–20 hours/week
Location: Remote, but must reside in Northern California
Schedule: Flexible, but most work takes place M–F during standard business hours
Pay: Hourly, rate based on experience
Start Date: As soon as filled
Reports To: Executive Director
Key Responsibilities
Program & Communications Support
Respond to inquiries from individuals, families, hospitals, and partners seeking assistance or resources and refer to our appropriate programs
Assist in coordinating and promoting programs such as post hospital rehabilitation, donated medical equipment, peer support, adaptive fitness, and other grants and resources
Support the preparation and delivery of our biweekly email newsletter and other outreach campaigns
Maintain and update program-related content on our website and email lists
Conduct phone/zoom screenings of applicants to our programs
Operations & Database Management
Maintain contact databases of donors, program participants, volunteers, and supporters
Track program activities and assist with reporting metrics for grants or internal review
Support donor communications and recordkeeping (e.g., thank-you emails, campaign tracking)
Event Assistance
Help coordinate logistics and outreach for virtual and in-person events
Attendance at one quarterly in-person event (e.g., community meet-up, mobile clinic) is strongly encouraged and may be required
You Are Someone Who...
Has direct experience with a spinal cord injury/disorder (SCI/D)
Lives in Northern California and is familiar with the region's geography and communities
Is passionate about supporting the SCI/D community, disability advocacy, or health-related nonprofit work
Communicates clearly and is comfortable with email, zoom, and phone (minimal texting) for internal communication
Is reliable, consistent, punctual, and able to execute. You are self-reliant and able to search for information and answers autonomously once you know the required tasks
Is able to work at a computer and has experience with databases, Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Gmail), and newsletter platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, or similar). This will not be a job you can do from your phone only. Adaptive tools are ok!
Is able to attend at least 1 in-person event per quarter
Works well independently in a remote environment, but enjoys collaborative teamwork
Nice-to-Haves (but not required)
Undergraduate degree
Experience working or volunteering in nonprofits
Familiarity with disability services or healthcare navigation
Basic design or digital content skills (e.g., Canva, iMovie, Photoshop, Mailchimp, website updates)
