JOB SUMMARY

NorCal SCI is a Bay Area-based 501(c)(3) non-profit with the mission to provide information, resources and programs allowing people affected by or living with a Spinal Cord Injury (SCI)/Disorder in Northern California to thrive and live productively. Since our inception in 2017, we have engaged in a variety of different initiatives and approaches to help and support our community.  We now want to increase our impact by launching our own outpatient facility to provide extended rehabilitation and exercise in a setting for those with a new case of spinal cord injury. We are currently in the process of opening a facility in the Bay Area opening in 2022. 

This position is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about serving and helping the SCI community and who genuinely wants to to be part of something special from the ground up. As a PT Assistant / Exercise Trainer you will be working at the direction of NorCal SCI’s Neuro PT and be an integral part of the therapy team. Additionally, this position will require having interpersonal skills and to be able to effectively communicate with the SCI population. Clients will come from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and experiences, and most will be dealing with a recent traumatic injury and the resulting changes to their lives. Therefore, sensitivity, empathy and emotional intelligence are essential in being able to provide tactful and nuanced care and respectful support. 

The goal of physical therapy in our clinic is to promote recovery and greater independence by utilizing evidence-based outcome measures to assess the individual’s condition and to work towards their goals and objectives for improved quality of life. Clients will have had their diagnoses and inpatient care already and will be coming to our facility for extended outpatient care and continuing exercise that they cannot acquire, or in many cases, afford elsewhere. 

DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

PT Assistant will be an integral part of the therapy team and it will be your responsibility to ensure the accurate and safe execution of a defined exercise therapy program for NorCal SCI clients who are going through their SCI Recovery. Work directly with the clients and facilitate their exercise routines to achieve their functional goals. Accurately monitor client performance providing performance metrics and ensuring client safety and well being at all times.

Responsibilities will include: 

  1. Assist clients in execution of pre defined and optional exercise therapy activities including stretching.

  2. Provide client motivation and communicate with client caregivers / family members on center operation and safety procedures.

  3. Particpate in client evaluations with Therapy Team providing essential feedback on client progression and functional improvement.

  4. Facilitiate client transistions in therapy environment so client can benefit from specialized equipment use.

  5. Interact with adaptive equipment users providing assistance and guidance for wellness exercise activities.

  6. Assist in client scheduling and center administration and basic housekeeping duties.

  7. Communicates effectively and efficiently with patients, families, staff and other interdisciplinary healthcare personnel.

  8. Demonstrates effective time management skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant. Member of a professional organization, or certification/specialty in neurologic patient population a plus.

  2. At least 1-2 years experience.

  3. Possession of interpersonal, time management, problem solving skills. 

  4. Willingness to work creatively and collaboratively with support staff and the NorCal SCI team. Genuine desire to be part of something special and make a positive impact on clients recovery.

  5. Full-time position seeks candidates to work up to 40 hours per week,

  6. Basic computer skills in word processing, online communication, and ability to be organized with note taking. 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  1. Prior exposure working primarily with the neurological/spinal cord injury patient population.

  2. Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary health provider team.

COMPENSATION

Full-time apositions with hourly rate of $30-$50 based on experience. 
Additional benefits negotiable based on hours worked and commitment.
