Sarah Yost
In March 2021, Sarah’s life took an unexpected turn following complications during scoliosis surgery. A surgical error during the procedure resulted in an incomplete spinal cord injury at the T9 vertebrae, leading to a T8 diagnosis. Rather than accepting a limited prognosis, Sarah applied her background in management and research to become a persistent advocate for her own recovery. This drive has led her to participate in several clinical trials across the country, including specialized programs in Indianapolis and Atlanta.
Sarah officially joined the NorCal SCI team in September 2026. As the Operations and Program Specialist, she leverages her high-level organizational expertise to support the foundation's mission. Her academic foundation is extensive, consisting of a BA in Economics, an MA in Cross-Cultural Education, and a Doctorate of Management. Before her injury and her transition into the non-profit sector, Sarah had a robust career in education, holding teaching credentials in Business and Finance, Child Development, and Communications & Information Technology.
A lifelong enthusiast for staying active, Sarah was an avid long-distance runner who completed numerous marathons and ultramarathons, including two finishes at the Boston Marathon and two finishes at the American River 50 Mile Run. She maintains that same commitment to physical activity today, utilizing a home gym and identifying as a "part-time walker." This endurance mindset also fuels her passion for international travel. Sarah travels extensively and is dedicated to exploring the world from a perspective of accessibility.
Sarah lives in the Central Valley with her husband. Together, they enjoy a full family life that includes five adult children, three adult step-children, and nine grandchildren.
