Why should you attend?
Fact: In the United States today, only a small minority of individuals suffering from a SCI get the care and opportunity they need to achieve their full potential after such a devastating injury. With the hospital lengths of stay consistently decreasing, the newly injured are being discharged without the necessary knowledge, resources, and support to maximize their recovery or even to live safely.
The shortened lengths of stay mean that the rehabilitation process has shifted to the outpatient environment. However, effective and specialized after-hospital rehabilitation and exercise is even less substantial and consistent than inpatient support and the quality and availability depend greatly on location. Affected individuals and their families typically are on their own to navigate this critical portion of their recovery process.
Motivated by the lack of any structured rehabilitation and care beyond acute rehab facilities, many individuals and organizations have taken it upon themselves to create facilities and services to address this need. This is fortunate for individuals who live in the right zip code or have the financial resources to travel and self-pay for these vital services. However the vast majority simply do not have access to this level of care and rehabilitation that would transform their recovery journey.
We believe there’s a real opportunity to dramatically impact the lives of people with SCIs by bringing together the leading voices in the post hospital SCI world to raise awareness, share ideas and best practices, and continue seeking effective solutions.
