SCI VIRTUAL CONSULTATIONS
Our free SCI Virtual Consultations are held twice-yearly and provide a 30-minute video consultation for those with a spinal cord injury living in areas of Northern California underserved by medical professionals with specific expertise in SCI. These consultations enable you to use Zoom Video to meet collectively with our team of clinicians with expertise working with the SCI population.
The Nurse Practitioner, Rebecca Hummel-Moore, specializes in spasticity and is knowledgeable in skin care and bowel and bladder care while the OT, Carole Adler Hughes, and PT, Erin Hallett, have between them many decades of experience treating individuals specifically with SCI/D. The Registered Dietitian, Shelley Wood, works directly with those with SCI on an outpatient basis. All four are Advisory Board Members of NorCal SCI.
The consultation involves a 30-minute Zoom session with the team and any recommendations will be communicated electronically after the appointment. As there is a limited number of sessions, priority will be given to individuals who do not have reasonable access to an SCI Medical Professional due to their location in Northern California.
We will expect the participants to be able to use Zoom and be able to control the device and camera or have a caregiver or family member present to assist with using the device and camera. This is important as this will allow our team to view such things as type of wheelchair used, seating position and assess range of motion and other requirements.
Please be aware that these virtual consultations cannot take the place of an in-person consultation and there will be limitations on how comprehensive the recommendations can be.
NorCal SCI have closed applications for 2022. The next virtual consultation sessions will be announced in our Newsletter during the first half of 2023.
