An introduction to Triumph Foundation

PNP Blogger, Nick Struthers, recently spoke to Andrew Skinner of the Triumph Foundation and writes about the great work they are doing for the SCI Community. Founded by Kristen and Andrew Skinner in 2008, Triumph Foundation helps individuals with Spinal Cord Injuries to triumph over their disability and inspire them to keep moving forward with their lives by pushing themselves to get better every day.

Based just north of Los Angeles in Santa Clarita, the Foundation offers many services and information tailored directly for the SCI Community not just in Southern California but also with links across the nation. There are many in the SCI Community who know about Triumph but there will be many (and I was one of them) who would benefit from learning more.

Their website is a great place to start to find out more about the great work they do. They have an extensive resource section which focuses on Southern California but they also have a significant amount of information on resources available in Northern California. They also offer a USB Drive Bracelet which contains a comprehensive list of resources in Northern California that they have compiled. You can request this directly from them.

Kristen and Andrew Skinner

Andrew suffered a C4, C5, & C6 Spinal Cord Injury in 2004 while snowboarding and is a recovering quadriplegic. Kirsten was with Andrew at the time of his injury and has been with him every step of the way. They are now married.

Speaking to Andrew, it was clear that he was passionate about helping the SCI community, The Triumph Foundation is testament that he and Kristen are making a positive difference in the community. It was an inspiration listening to him and I could tell that he has the positive spirit that drives him to help other individuals navigate the challenges he himself faced and overcame.

The Foundation has its big fundraising event in July which is unfortunately the same day I will be watching Liverpool FC take on AC Milan in the Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara. However, if you want to help out and you can't get to the event itself, which I know will be a challenge for many of our Northern California Users, just check out their website.
