Elephant seal excursion at Año Nuevo State Reserve on Feb. 19th
Santa Cruz-based Shared Adventures is hosting the last elephant seal excursion of the year on Sunday, Feb. 19th from 12:30-3 p.m. at Año Nuevo State Reserve in Pescadero. Año Nuevo State Reserve is the site of the largest mainland breeding colony in the world for the northern elephant seal. Elephant seals, sea lions, and other marine mammals come ashore to rest, mate, and give birth in the sand dunes and on the beaches.
It is a unique and unforgettable natural spectacle that hundreds of thousands of people come to witness each year. Join us for a fully-accessible stroll led by informative park docents. Afterwards, you can check out the Visitor Center which features natural history exhibits. This event will be held rain or shine — the seals love the rain and are more active in it, so bring a poncho and brave the weather for this amazing opportunity!
Cost is $10 per person plus $10 parking fee per vehicle and you must register in advance as space is limited and is filled up quickly. Contact Shared Adventures to pre-register: (831) 459-7210 or by e-mail at activities@sharedadventures.org.
