What's happening to wheelchair van parking spaces?

I've been driving wheelchair-accessible ramp vans for 27 years now and have appreciated the amount of side striped space dedicated for the ramp to be deployed.  However, I've seen more and more spaces with a narrower striped zone.  As a result, I end up with a tighter space to maneuver my wheelchair from, leaving me to wonder what's been taking place.

My question was finally answered when I came across this article in New Mobility magazine.
