New statistics on SCI population

The National Spinal Cord Injury Center is operated by the University of Alabama at Birmingham and recently released the latest facts and figures on the SCI population. Here are some of the highlights:

  • There are approximately 282,000 persons in the U.S. with SCI.
  • Approximately 17,000 new SCI cases occur every year with males accounting for 80%.
  • The average age at the time of injury is 42 years.
