AXIS Dance Company celebrates 30th year with dance at Yerba Buena Gardens

Oakland-based AXIS Dance Company, a nationally-recognized organization that champions disabled and non-disabled dance performers, will provide two performances of Occupy: a site-specific journey through an urban garden on July 1 & 2.

Occupy is inspired by the history, design and architecture of Yerba Buena Gardens, San Francisco and the unique movement capabilities of AXIS Dance Company.  Featuring twenty disabled and non-disabled performers, Occupy offers both an immersive and expansive experience.

The free performances will take place at Noon and 2:30 p.m. at the Esplanade in the Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco located on Mission St. between 3rd & 4th Streets.  RSVP is strongly encouraged by visiting the WEB SITE, e-mail at info@axisdance.org or phone at (510) 625-0110.  This is a wheelchair accessible event but no pets are allowed except certified companion or service animals.

Occupy is the first event in a series of programs commemorating AXIS Dance Company’s 30th Anniversary.  It also marks AXIS Founder and longtime Artistic Director Judith Smith’s final commission. Smith passes the torch to AXIS’ new Artistic Director Marc Brew after nearly 20 years at the helm, and moves into a multi-faceted advocacy role as Founder & Director.
