NorCal SCI co-founders, Nick and Franklin, attended an open house last Friday hosted by Silicon Valley Independent Living Center (SVILC) in San Jose which saw over 100 attendees mingling with each other and the staff as well as helping themselves to plenty of food and drinks.

It was a great opportunity for us to meet with literally every staff member at SVILC.  One of our main goals was to meet with the Executive Director, Sheri Burns, as we wanted to have an open dialogue about ways we can collaborate not only with SVILC but also all the Independent Living Centers throughout Northern California.

Sheri was a gracious host and gave us a warm welcome as she did with every person in attendance.  You can tell the staff members were keen to show off the center's services and their role in carrying out the responsibilities such services require of them.

SVILC is a cross-disability organization that was founded in 1976 and it also has an office in Gilroy.  The vast majority of the employees have some type of disability which helps them develop a better understanding of the challenges that their disabled clients face out there.

We look forward to engaging with SVILC and supporting each other's objectives through various collaborations and providing of knowledge and connections to further our respective agendas.   In the coming weeks, we will report on some of the special services that SVILC provides the disabled community,
