BORP rolls out high-energy workout class for the SCI community

This is one of those great opportunities that’s been long overdue:  a high-energy workout class for persons with a spinal cord injury, especially those using a wheelchair, thanks to the folks at Bay Area Outreach & Recreation Program (BORP)

The class, Move to the Beat, is taught by AXIS Dance Company member, JanpiStar, who is a wheelchair user.  The moves will be geared towards upper body and core strengthening, yet is open to anyone that wants to move to a beat.  You don’t need to be a workout geek to participate in this class, so put all your hesitation behind and sign up.  You can join using your power or manual wheelchair, regardless of your level of injury.  Non-wheelchair users or persons with non-SCI are also welcomed.

The class runs for five Tuesdays in a row on Nov. 20, 27, Dec. 4, 11, and 18 and runs from 5:15-6:15 p.m. at the BORP Fitness Studio located at the Ed Roberts Campus, 3075 Adeline St., suite 150, Berkeley.  The cost is $11 per class, and for seniors 55 and older & veterans, $8 per class. If you are a person with a spinal cord injury, please call Bonnie at (510) 524-2026 and ask about the Nielsen Pass, a subsidized pass specifically for people with SCI.

To sign up for this limited class, send an email to Ariel at, ariel@borp.org and in the subject line, write “Sign up for Move to the Beat”.
