CAMP FIRES: How to help those with physical disabilities affected by the devastating fires
For two years in a row now, the devastation left behind by Northern California’s wildfires has affected huge swaths of land and thousands of lives and unfortunately, this year has thus far been the deadliest year ever as a result of these incidents.
There are dozens of shelters spread throughout Butte County and it makes it difficult to track persons with physical disabilities that may require assistance. NorCal SCI asks the disability community to let us know of anyone with a physical disability or their family who may be in need of assistance. The need out there is great and there are a lot of agencies helping out and so, given the nature of our organization, as much as possible, we would like to prioritize helping those with spinal cord injuries. Please notify us of anyone you may know or have them contact us at (408) 458-9863.
You can also help by donating to the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers that is raising money to help survivors with disabilities through the Richard Devylder Disaster Relief Fund. Donations made to the fund will be used to assist survivors with disabilities who have lost their critical mobility and accessibility devices such as wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, hearing aids, and communication devices in the fire.
