Troy Plunkett to assume leadership of the Berkeley SCI Support Group

We couldn't think of a better outcome than having NorCal SCI's friend and all-around good guy, Troy Plunkett, founder of the SCI Active Network, assume the leadership role of the Berkeley SCI Support Group starting this month's meeting on Thurs., April 12th.

For nearly five years, Tom Shankle had led these monthly meetings and now, following his recent marriage and a pending move to Italy, the Berkeley group welcomes Troy to help lead the support group starting this month.  The new name of the group will be the Berkeley SCI Active Network.

The group has been serving the Berkeley-area SCI community since 2005 and it became a chapter of the United Spinal Association in 2013.  It wasn't until the following year that the group began meeting at the Ed Roberts Campus where it's been since then.

Troy had a spinal cord injury almost 15 years ago during a motocross accident and launched his organization in 2015 serving the greater Solano County SCI population.  He has worked collaboratively with various groups over the years and his signature Share-A-Chair program provides refurbished lightweight manual wheelchairs to those in need.

The meeting will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Ed Roberts Campus, 3075 Adeline, Berkeley.  There will also be a secret door prize to be given away at the meeting.  For information, contact Tom at (415) 205-3882.
