SCI Empowerment Project tackles challenges using videos
We came across the SCI Empowerment Project run through the University of Washington's Rehabilitation Medicine department that was worth sharing. Funded by the Craig Neilsen Foundation, they have produced a series of informative and demonstrative videos addressing several key areas that individuals with a spinal cord injury, especially wheelchair users, tend to face.
Among the areas for which they have produced videos for are:
- Hand Function after Spinal Cord Injury
Profiles of Aging with a Spinal Cord Injury (5 videos)
Respiratory Management (2 videos)
Wheelchair Skills (21 videos)
Videos 1–11: Foundational wheelchair techniques, including wheelies, pop-ups, curbs and steps, and rough terrain.
Videos 12–16: Proper pushing techniques, including slopes, doors, and stairs.
Videos 17–21: Transferring to and from your wheelchair and a chair, bed, toilet, tub, or the floor.
