Last month, we challenged our community to consider donating to the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers’ Richard Devylder Disaster Relief Fund to assist survivors of November’s Camp Fires. This included individuals with disabilities who lost their critical mobility and accessibility devices such as wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, hearing aids, and communication devices in the fire. We’re pleased to report that donors provided $3,610 for this fundraising effort.

Christine Mills, Executive Director of CFILC, expressed her appreciation for these critical funds by saying “thank you so very much for organizing a donation drive to support the Richard Devylder Disaster Relief Fund. The fund has allowed us to purchase a range of AT and medical equipment to assist those who lost everything in the recent Paradise area fire. We’ve been able to come through for our community because of folks like you!”

Thank you, Christine, We know firsthand how generous NorCal SCI’s community is and they came through once again to help those devastated by the worst wildfire in the state’s history. Thank you for all the work you do in identifying critical resources to help those individuals reclaim their lives.

NOTE: New Mobility magazine covered the aftermath of the recent fires in this article and shared some of the personal experiences of those with a disability.
