Donated Durable Medical Equipment program surpasses $150,000 in donated value

This past week, NorCal SCI’s Donated Durable Medical Equipment program achieved a special milestone as we distributed additional equipment pushing the total value for the year to over $150,000, thanks to the generosity of the SCI community which continues to donate additional equipment every week. For us, the words we hear from the recipients of the donated equipment simply reinforce the wise decision we made some six months ago to invest in securing our storage facility which is now at near capacity.

The most remarkable aspect of this program involves the quality of some of the items we’ve received, whether it’s the $10,000 Quickie QM7 power wheelchair which elevates to 12 inches, or the TiLite manual wheelchair that just needs a new back support, or the various shower benches and commode seats, often times brand new.

We’ve learned a few things along the way, such as not accepting older power wheelchairs, but along the way, we also learned that depending on the equipment, age may not be as important so long as they’re in working condition.

If you’ve been sitting on equipment that you haven’t used for a while, consider donating them (yes, we can issue a receipt for tax deduction purposes) and if you or someone you know needs a certain equipment, browse through our inventory HERE.
