Founded by Roy Tuscany, the Tahoe-based High Fives Foundation supports the dreams of outdoor action sports athletes by raising injury prevention awareness while providing resources and inspiration to those who suffer life altering injuries. Included among those resources are their Empowerment Grants that can award up to $25,000 to eligible individuals based on two criteria:

  1. Applicants who have suffered an SCI, TBI, or other life-changing injury while pursuing a dream in outdoor sports, within the past 25 years, can receive funding for goals related to their recovery.

  2. Applicants who have suffered an SCI, TBI, or other life-changing injury, outside of the outdoor sports community, are eligible to receive funding for goals related to their recovery within the outdoor sports community.

Scholarships are primarily needs-based and documentation of needs must support the scholarship application. The maximum amount awarded for one disbursement (or in a fiscal year for an individual) shall not exceed $25,000. All grant requests must meet the High Fives Foundation's mission.
