NorCal SCI has been approached by a family in San Jose that wishes to give away a 2005 model year Dodge Grand Caravan SE which has been adapted to accommodate a wheelchair user to ride as a passenger. With the marketplace for these types of vehicles starting in the $10,000-$15,000 range, many people are simply unable to acquire such vehicles. This vehicle is a Braun Entervan with a fold out ramp on the passenger side sliding door. Though the vehicle is in good running condition, the owners are disclosing the known issues with this vehicle and have estimated that an investment of about $5,000 may need to be spent to remedy those issues.

The floor to the door height on the ramp is 53 inches whereas the floor to the ceiling of the interior is 56 1/2 inches.

The vehicle has 171,000 miles on it though it has a rebuilt engine with less than 50,000 miles. It has an EZ Lock system installed on the front passenger side. The brakes, tires and air conditioning system are in good condition and have been recently serviced.

The main expense would involve locating the loss of water from the radiator as the vehicle requires about half a gallon a week. The air bag light on the passenger side stays on though the cause of it has not been identified.

Overall, just like any used vehicle of this age, there are cosmetic issues that need to be dealt with. If you’re interested in this vehicle, please e-mail info@norcalsci.org.
