NorCal SCI completes a successful SCI Mobile Clinic in Modesto
This past weekend, NorCal SCI conducted the first-ever SCI Mobile Clinic in Modesto where through an incredible collaboration and purely volunteer effort, six persons with spinal cord injuries spent about an hour each with a team of healthcare professionals consisting of a physical therapist, occupational therapist and nurse practitioner with specific expertise in SCI to get an assessment of any health challenges and questions they may have as well as receive new ideas and solutions to overcome such issues.
We have many people to thank starting, in no particular order, our team of SCI experts Rebecca Hummel-Moore, nurse practitioner, Carole Adler Hughes, OT and Kyle Smith, PT. We’re grateful to our hosts, Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) and Heather Santos, Jorge Pimentel and Makyla DaPonte who made us feel very welcomed. Finally, major thanks to Daniel from Modesto Mobility Center who patiently fixed several wheelchair.
For NorCal SCI’s Nick, Franklin and Carl, it was a great opportunity to mingle and talk with everyone about their unique challenges and we hope that we provided some valuable advice and resources. It did, however, reinforce the value of having a regular meeting of your fellow peers who can support each other. Our goal for this area is to help support such a group. As for the clinic, we definitely got some good feedback on the value that it served and we plan on coming back again very soon.
