Disability agencies offer volunteer & paid positions

There are a couple of positions at two organizations serving the disability community and so, if you wish to be in an environment and position where you’d be helping and advocating for your fellow disability community members, you might want to look into them.

The California Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities (CCEPD) is seeking a person with a disability and a business representative to serve as representatives to the Committee. The CCEPD makes policy recommendations to the California Health and Human Services Agency and the Labor and Workforce Development Agency on increasing the rate of employment of people with disabilities. The CCEPD also influences policy and program development on State coordination efforts for people with disabilities. Several California Departments, business representatives, community-based organizations and people with disabilities are members of the Committee. CCEPD Members are required to participate in quarterly full-day meetings in Sacramento, participate on a Subcommittee, provide perspective from their representation, and provide feedback to policymakers. Members are reimbursed for travel costs. Please visit the CCEPD homepage for the application.

The Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities in San Mateo has two paid positions, one full-time and one part-time. The CalFresh Eligibility Coordinators are responsible for determining eligibility and enrolling SSI beneficiaries into the CALFresh (formally SNAP) benefits program. In addition, the coordinators will provide other benefits assistance to clients as instructed, as well as assistance to the Independent Living Generalist department as directed. The two positions pay $19 per hour and you can learn more about them and apply HERE.
